Bonneville County Heritage Commission is an association formed of local volunteers for the purpose of studying and presenting local histories. We are not government-funded, but rely on volunteers, private donations, and grants as needed. We are self-governing with the endorsement and cooperation of the County Commission and the Museum of Idaho, who provide guidance, meeting rooms, and program facilities. Noting that Bonneville County was formed in 1911, we are developing a public centennial celebration bringing together various communities within the county.
Our projects include:
1. Presenting a series of historical lectures on local communities.
2. Publishing a book for use in local schools as a supplementary 4th grade text.
3. Identifying with community participation historic sites ‘treasures’ throughout the county.
4. Preparing a ‘tourist’ brochure on these county "treasures," with a self-guided tours for visiting them.
5. Producing a grand finale to many community celebrations during the centennial year 2011.
